The Tag Rugby Rebels are a team of 14 community sport youth leaders from 2 youth clubs in London – Hackney Quest and Coram Fields. In partnership with London Youth, the Tag Rugby Trust and the RFU they will undertake a 14 month leadership programme in the local community, culminating in a Tag Rugby Tour to Zambia in October 2012 where they will get the chance to use their skills to reach and help those less fortunate than themselves and contribute towards a programme that will be sustained for many years to come.
The purpose of the Tag Rugby Rebel tour is:
- to deliver a Tag Rugby programme in urban and rural Zambia - to provide us a challenging and adventurous experience in an overseas environment - to use my leadership skills to benefit others and to challenge myself as a Tag Rebel in environment away from the comforts of home - to integrate myself with local the communities in Zambia, sharing experiences and building friendships - to provide young people from local Zambian schools/orphanages the chance to learn and play tag rugby and compete in a festival as a finale - to work closely with local volunteers/teachers and community members to provide them the skills to continue to develop tag rugby once we have left - to provide the necessary resources (equipment) to the local communities/schools to allow delivery to continue - share my inner City life experiences with Zambian young people and for Zambian young people to share their life experiences - to have a better understanding of how people in Zambia live - to have an appreciation of what I take for granted i.e. hot and cold running water, my I pod, collage etc...
