The Hackney Wick Youth Voice project started in December 2016, with the aim of empowering young people in Hackney Wick to have their voices heard. It is commissioned by Wick Award, through the National Lottery “Big Local” initiative.

The project is led by Luke alongside two paid young project assistants and a panel of local young people. They have run events and workshops in the local area and in local schools, and have consulted with local decision-makers about the future of Hackney Wick and how the area could be improved for young people.

"Hackney Wick Through Young Eyes" report

For six months in 2017, we undertook a large-scale research project in the local area, focused on young people’s thoughts, concerns, and ideas. We have now produced a detailed report on our findings, the goal of which is to amplify the voices of local young people. We hope that this report can help young people to be recognised as the vitally important local stakeholders that they are, and that the concerns they have raised can be taken seriously and addressed.

Between January and July 2017 we ran: interviews and focus groups (reaching 20 young people & parents), workshops (reaching 295 young people), surveys (reaching 62 young people & parents) and events (reaching approximately 180 young people). In total we engaged over 400 young people aged between 8 and 20.
